Conference Notes

Speaking at … KMWorld & Intranets 2008 (San Jose, CA)

Well it’s official … I will be speaking at the KMWorld & Intranets 2008 conference in San Jose CA during the latter part of September. This is my first time at KMWorld, and the conference blurb reads:

Driving Enterprise Innovation & Achievement: User-Focused Tools & Practices
The 12th annual KMWorld & Intranets Conference and Exhibition will be held on September 23 – 25, 2008 at the San José McEnery Convention Center, in San José, California.

The KMWorld & Intranets Conference and Exhibition offers a wide-ranging program especially focused to meet the needs of executives and strategic business and technology decision makers. This is a must-attend for those concerned with improving their organization’s bottom line, business processes and productivity, as well as streamlining operations and accelerating development and innovation in their evolving enterprises.

My session is in Track D, Intranets: Collaboration Tools and Practices, on Wednesday September 24, with the following abstract:

D202 SharePoint as a Collaboration Tool: An Independent Evaluation

Much of our collaborative activities are carried out within email. Microsoft has introduced SharePoint as a way of moving some of this collaboration activity out of email and into a platform that is designed to support collaboration. But can SharePoint really support collaboration in a way that makes the work practices of individuals and teams easier? Our speaker tests Microsoft’s claims about the use of SharePoint for collaboration, and evaluates where and how SharePoint is best suited, given its strengths and weaknesses.

So in essence … it’s a presentation and discussion based on my SharePoint 7 Pillars research report.

What’s really super-cool is that the 24th is the day that Seamless Teamwork, my book on using SharePoint for collaboration, will be available from Amazon. Eric says he wants the first signed copy … who wants the second?
