Collaborative Decision Making – the IBM Approach

IBM is hosting a webinar next week on making decisions collaboratively using Cognos Business Intelligence and Lotus Connections:

IBM Cognos Business Intelligence provides built-in collaborative and social networking capabilities to fuel the exchange of ideas and knowledge that naturally occurs in decision-making processes today.

Teams can lose tremendous productivity as they search for invaluable information hidden in various meeting notes, manual processes, emails and people’s notebooks. Cognos Business Intelligence helps groups streamline and improve decision-making by providing capabilities for forming communities, capturing annotations and opinions, and sharing insights with others around the information itself.

Join us to learn how you can share insights and solicit ideas with a broad set of social networking capabilities available through integration with IBM Connections. Integrated access to blogs, wikis and message boards let you expand the reach and impact of your information and gather input from different perspectives.

My Comments
1. I’m not attending the webinar – it’s 3am local time for me. That’s a bit on the nose, sorry IBM. Hopefully they’ll record it and make it available for replay.

2. From the overview above, it sounds interesting. The agenda also talks about “measuring social sentiment,” which could be a helpful feature – depending on how many people you have involved in the decision. For decisions with a small group, little value add. For decisions involving input from thousands, invaluable.

3. It’s unclear how much of the collaborative capabilities in Cognos are natively included (“… provides built-in collaborative and social networking capabilities“) and how much come from integration with Connections (“… a broad set of social networking capabilities available through integration with IBM Connections“). Hopefully the webinar will shoo away the fog!
