Last week I asked if the iPad supports an on-screen Dvorak keyboard. The answer is “no”.
Here’s why. Although the iTunes App Store includes a couple of Dvorak keyboard apps, they only provide a Dvorak keyboard on-screen while in the app itself. They do not add a Dvorak on-screen keyboard to the iPad preferences pane. In other words, when you open Safari or Mail, you do not get the Dvorak keyboard – you have to type QWERTY. If you want to type Dvorak, you have to open the Dvorak app.
So … Dvorak typists must wait for Apple to add an on-screen Dvorak keyboard to the iPad. Until then, it’s hunt and peck!
