Coming Full Circle

A long time ago … in 1997 … I started my own business. For a while back then, I worked from a home office. The first desk I purchased was a cheap cafeteria table from the local office furniture and stationery shop. Above is the photo of my set up from August 2003. That 14″ flat panel monitor cost me NZD$2000 (USD$1400). Wow, how times change.

I have different desks now, but the desk in the photo is still around. Today I hauled it into the office for a test / experiment, to see whether another work surface would be helpful or not. If it is, I’ll buy a desk that goes with my main desk … and if not, nothing lost. Regardless, it’s cool to reflect back on those early days.

For the record, the only work equipment from the photo above that I still have are:
– The phone headset, still going strong. Thanks Plantronics.
– The Logitech Trackman Marble, although I don’t use it anymore. Prefer the MX Revolution.

All of the other office equipment has broken (the telephones, the floor mat, the printer), or been sold (the chair), or been replaced with different ways of doing the same thing (the blue 2-drawer filing cabinet for a different style of filing).
