I have been reviewing the data on how SharePoint organizations approach site closure. One interesting fact that the data shows is that the longer an organization has had SharePoint in place, the less likely it is to take a strict policy to site closure.

Let’s put that another way. When starting out with a site closure policy, organizations are more likely to take a strict view on applying it – “this is the policy, and you have to live with it” – but as the months and years tick by, the exceptions come up, the complexity is discovered, people don’t like the policy, etc., the strict application gives way to a more interpreted / contextual application.
