I last wrote about typing Dvorak back in January. Jill just left a comment that you’ve got to read!
“After reading Jared Diamond’s piece on “The Curse of Qwerty”, I decided to give the Dvorak keyboard a shot, as I was suffering from bad RSI in my left shoulder blade.
My “conversion process” started earlier this year, but the going was slow initially because I did not have the luxury of typing Dvorak exclusively for a few weeks, and had to switch between both for about a month. This slowed down my adjustment process.
But now, I type almost exclusively in Dvorak, and I don’t regret one bit the time that I put in to learn it! It is definitely more efficient than Qwerty and my fingers move much lees. My RSI problem has pretty much disappeared, I have regained my typing speed, I have this geek quotient, and I still love seeing the panic on people’s faces when they type on my keyboard and see all the “wrong” letters appearing onscreen!“
A couple of notes:
– Here’s The Curse of Qwerty (I hadn’t seen this before).
– My RSI has completely gone too. No more pain.
– I note every day how little my fingers have to move to type. It feels like cheating.
– I forget that I type Dvorak. It’s invisible to me. I only “remember” when I go to type on someone else’s computer, and realize they type Qwerty. So I have to explain to them why I hunt and peck!
