The Technology Trends of Enterprise Collaboration and Virtual Teams

  • Foleo = Dead … Ed Colligan, the CEO of Palm, announced that the Foleo has been cancelled. “In the course of the past several months, it has become clear that the right path for Palm is to offer a single, consistent user experience around this new platform design and a single focus for our platform development efforts. To that end, and after careful deliberation, I have decided to cancel the Foleo mobile companion product in its current configuration and focus all of our energies on delivering our next generation platform and the first smartphones that will bring this platform to market. We will, of course, continue to develop products in partnership with Microsoft on the Windows Mobile platform, but from our internal platform development perspective, we will focus on only one.Palm Blog, see also Macworld, WSJ Online, EE Times, Mercury News

Insights on Being Productive and Effective as an Individual

  • Undisturbed Time … For some tasks, it is okay to multitask. For other tasks, concentrated effort for a significant period of time is essential. Jason suggests (and seeks more suggestions) on creating undisturbed time: (1) block out time on your calendar, (2) reserve a conference room and go there to do your work, (3) unplug from the Internet, and (4) find and work with an accountability buddy. • Why Time Management? … Mike asks “why?” we’re so into time management. Is it that “time is money?” Is it about “work/life balance”? Is it about “pride in your work”? Or is it about “having the best time management systems”? There’s no one right answer, but Mike does pose this challenge: “If you’ve been following all of our great advice and your web work is humming along efficiently, are you doing the right thing with the time you’ve gained for yourself? Will you look back on this year as a success? With the potential of web work to promote increased workplace freedom, it would be a shame if we only used it to boost ourselves on to more efficient treadmills.WebWorkerDaily
