  • Upgrading from WSS v2 to v3 … Chan has details on what’s involved in upgrading from Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services v2 to v3. As he says, there’s no silver bullet. Eg, “Note down the version of the WSS V2 server. With each service pack the version changes. The version for WSS V2 SP2 is 6.0.2.6568. In some cases security updates and hot fixes may change this version number. Basically depending on your opted migration method you may need to build a pre-migration server which is a close match to what your current production build is. In the server we were auditing the version was 6.0.2.8117 which had KB924881 applied as a post SP2 fix.Chandima.net

Mobility

  • BeeJive for iPhone … BeeJive released a public alpha version of its JiveTalk mobile instant messaging client for the Safari browser on the iPhone. “The service takes advantage of the fact Apple didn’t include a version of its own iChat instant messaging client with the iPhone. iPhone owners should just point their phone to iphone.beejive.com and get started messaging via AIM, AMSN, Yahoo Messenger, Google Talk, ICQ, and Jabber. BeeJive is letting anyone use the alpha release for free, but warns there might be problems and/or bugs.Digital Trends (hat tip, Marc)
  • IceMail for iPhone … IceMail introduced a 30-day free trial of IceMail–it’s hosted Exchange email service–for iPhone users. Available immediately. PCWorld

Productivity

  • 5 Writing Tips … Five ways to become a more productive writer: (1) set process goals for writing, (2) make writing the first thing you do every day, (3) get comfortable with chaos – you don’t have to know what you’re writing (eg, separate planning, writing and editing), (4) get over yourself, and (5) learn to write by writing.
