Microsoft is working on a second generation of its Surface tablet.

Mary reports a few details:
– There’s a Surface 2 Pro and Surface 2. The latter replaces the Surface RT, but will still run the Windows RT operating system.
– It will have a faster processor, a USB 3.0 port, support for 802.11 wifi, but otherwise be very similar to the current models.

And in separate news, there is apparently a new cover in the works too—one that includes a battery that powers the Surface Pro / 2 Pro. Clearly it’s an additional battery to the one inside the Pro / 2 Pro device, but there is no word on how much extra time it will add to run time.
