10% of users upgrading their Windows Phone devices had problems, according to BBC Technology News:
“Microsoft has revealed that 1 in 10 users who tried to install a software update on their Windows mobile experienced problems.
The company had previously said that only a “small number” of handsets were affected.
Owners have reported a range of issues following the download, from phones crashing, to becoming completely unusable.
Microsoft pulled the update soon after the problem came to light.“
My Comments
Michael from Microsoft said it was actually a 90% success rate, and while that’s mathematically correct, it’s far too low for such a critical device as a phone. Microsoft does appear to have done some post-problem analysis work, and isolated what it believes are the critical issues.
However – for a firm the size of Microsoft, with the mobile aspirations it has, a 10% fail rate is way too high. In my view, more testing should have been done.
