Socialcast Message Broadcast … Socialcast added Message Broadcasting features into its enterprise microblogging tool. “Prior to Socialcast’s release of this feature, all enterprise microblogging tools gave equal importance to every message inside the network. While good for facilitating conversations and flattening the organizational hierarchy, industry tools lacked the ability to create significance around messages that needed immediate attention. Socialcast’s Broadcast Message was built to respect organizations’ management tiers while still providing an environment of collaboration and informational exchange while limiting email volume. Once a Broadcast Message goes out, collaboration happens around the discussion point within the Socialcast stream, rather than on corporate email.” More

These new advances in email technology are long overdue and surely welcome among consumers and business alike. Skype with Desktop Sharing … The latest Mac and Windows edition of Skype added desktop sharing options. “Skype makes sharing a desktop remotely as simple as pushing a button in the call window. In just a few seconds, the host’s desktop pops up in a window on the remote user’s screen. This window is resizable, up to the resolution of the host’s screen. Resizing the window is done with crisp resolution, no matter what size is used. The shared desktop is updated in real time, which Skype does with almost no lag at all. The remote user can follow the cursor of the host on the screen, and see exactly what he or she is doing at any given moment. This is true collaboration; it is just like looking over the host’s shoulder to see what he or she is doing.” More
Postbox 14 … Beta 14 of Postbox, a new email client, added calendaring capabilities, along with a slew of new capabilities. “Postbox now natively supports Gmail-style conversation threading and e-mail message counts. So if you’ve got a collapsed thread, where you can only see one message, there will now be a number next to it telling you how many unread messages are in the thread. Unfortunately, when I clicked on the first message, even if it had already been marked as read, it automatically marked all the unread messages in the thread as read, too. There’s a new Contacts sidebar, although the old Address Book is still available by hitting CTRL+2 or going through the Tools menu. The new Web services option, also available from the Tools menu or the Advanced Settings tab under Options, gives you more granular control over which Web services you’re logged into through Postbox. This is useful if Postbox isn’t your main Twitter manager, so you can keep your API count from exploding and preventing tweet updates.” More
