Michael's Happenings

A Day in Melbourne (April 10)

After the two hectic days in Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne, I had a slower-paced day in Melbourne. I did a bit of walking between the three meetings that I had, and that was a nice change from going everywhere in a rush in a taxi.

At 10.30am, I met with Shawn Callahan from Anecdote and Dave Pollard (author of the How to Save the World blog). We conversed about change, collaboration, sustainability … and more … but although we all blog, not one of us hauled out a laptop.

Over lunch I met with a gentleman from a large Australian firm, who has internal responsibility for SharePoint, among other things. It was good to hear his views on vendor selection, SharePoint, Microsoft, information management, and more.

And finally, one of the people who purchased a copy of SharePoint 7 Pillars arranged for some of the interesting knowledge management and collaboration people in his network to meet for a 2-hour discussion on … knowledge management and collaboration. I really enjoyed listening to the experiences of others, seeing the approach that Shawn (two meetings in one day!) took to the issues, and also sharing my research into SharePoint from a collaboration perspective. Thanks much to Andrew for making the arrangements, and to each person who came and shared. It was … great to be there.

And now it’s time to head home … I have really enjoyed being here in Australia, meeting lots of really interesting people, sharing what I know and hearing what others know … thank you to everyone who has made this a memorable trip.
