Connectbeam is an information and people discovery tool on top of enterprise search. It provides a software search experience within the enterprise that is becoming more popular on the wide Internet. Trying to bring it into the enterprise in a non-disruptive way, by layering it on top of enterprise search platforms. Can discover expertise and the people that are related to specific content.
Once Connectbeam is installed, it is a second server in the enterprise. A user enters a search construct, and that search construct is passed to the enterprise search server; the result set is returned to Connectbeam, the items are combined, and the results are presented to the user. Down the left are the traditional search results, and on the right are related tags (from Connectbeam), and related users (from Connectbeam). The main search results can be tagged by the user and saved to a private or public bookmark areas.
The related users are clickable … and when clicked, shows a profile page of the user … including directory contact information, a tag cloud, and topics that the person is interested in (created or subscribed). There’s also the ability to search directly for users within the search interface.
If the user is not logged in, they get to see publicly available information. Once logged in, the associated tags of specific people are further filtered to show common interests.
To save a bookmark, the user must be logged in. They can add it to an existing one of their topics, or create a new one. They can add a tag (or multiples).
In addition to tagging / bookmarking enterprise data, you can also extend the search to bookmarks on the Internet.
