- Open-Xchange Server 5 Update … Open-Xchange announced 50 new/updated features for Version 5 of its Linux-oriented Open-Xchange Server for messaging and collaboration, delivered in Service Pack 3. Upgrades include better mobile device synchronization, enhanced usability for Microsoft Outlook, and extended search capabilities, among others. Available immediately. TechWeb
- 5 Companies at Enterprise 2.0 Conference … Five of the companies presenting their wares at the Enterprise 2.0 Conference in Boston next week are iotum (a smart way of using presence information to route calls), WorkLight (data extraction from enterprise systems, and conversion into RSS or other things), Connectbeam (social bookmarking for the enterprise), OpenTeams (a wiki with the traditional three-pane layout of Outlook or Notes), and Mindquarry (an open source collaborative workspace). - WebEx Numbers … Cisco is mulling the future of WebEx, and recently shared a number of market numbers: 29,000 customers, 20% growth per year, 60% market share. They believe the future opportunity is much larger. eWeek
- Telepresence Review … Steve isn’t impressed with the technology of telepresence, arguing that it’s a return to the worst of face-to-face meetings (you have to schedule the meeting, you have to travel to a suite, you have a simulated meeting environment). He advocates that desktop video conferencing and screen sharing is much more productive. Steve

- Layoffs at Palm … Palm laid off a “small percentage” of its 1200 employees; most were from the Palm development group in the United States. ComputerWorld

- On Project Managers … CIOs argue that project managers are critical to mitigating business risk in plans, and are essential in keeping expectations in line across a group of people. Suitably skilled project managers are a scarce resource, however. SearchCIO
