I have been doing a survey on what organizations are doing with SharePoint. There were three questions, the second of which was an industry classification. For some industries, I received enough responses to give an industry breakdown.

Here is the chart for Professional Services (45 responses):

In comparison to the Overall Analysis:

• The top 4 areas are the same, although “providing document management services” is 2nd for Professional Services, not 3rd as for the Overall.
• The bottom 4 areas are the same, although Professional Services firm use SharePoint for “Managing Business Records” at a higher clip than the Overall.
• “Encouraging social collaboration” is forecast within 12 to have higher usage in Professional Services firms compared to the Overall. The greater use of social collaboration makes sense in professional services firms – they are an ideal target market for these capabilities.
• “Powering enterprise search” is used more currently in Professional Services firms, but is forecast to grow to the same penetration within 12 months as for the Overall.
